Lehigh Acres, FL — A 52-year-old woman was killed and three other people were injured after a multi-vehicle crash on State Road 82 in Lehigh Acres Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The deadly four-vehicle collision happened at about 7 a.m. on January 15 on FL-82 near 40th Street SW.
An initial investigation revealed that a 32-year-old man Immokalee was driving a van westbound on FL-82 in the same direction as a car operated by a 51-year-old Lehigh Acres woman in the outside lane.
For some reason, the van rear-ended the car, causing it to drive off the roadway where it struck a light pole.
The impact caused the van to cross over the median and crash into a sign before it crossed into the eastbound lanes.
The van struck the right side of an SUV operated by a 45-year-old Fort Myers man and then collided head-on with a second SUV operated by a 36-year-old Lehigh Acres man.
Troopers said the driver of the van was seriously injured, as well as a 36-year-old SUV driver from Lehigh Acres.
FHP troopers said a 52-year-old female passenger in the second SUV was transported to the hospital where she died.
The driver of the van and the 36-year-old Lehigh Acres man were hospitalized with serious injuries.
No additional information is available.
The crash remains under investigation.
