Phoenix, AZ – A woman is dead after she was struck and killed following a series of traffic collisions in Phoenix on Sunday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The deadly incident took place just before 5 a.m. on March 9 on Loop 202 near 40th Street.
DPS said a driver heading westbound on Loop 202 lost control of their car and the vehicle slammed into the median wall on 40th Street before spinning and coming to rest facing the wrong way. The driver of the car reportedly left the scene on foot.
According to DPS, a female driver stopped her car on the right shoulder, reportedly to check if anyone was hurt in the first incident.
The woman was out of her vehicle when another driver tried to swerve away from the first vehicle and struck the woman. The woman who later died at the hospital, her name has not been released.
Two other collisions, one involving a tire and another involving three vehicles, were reported at the scene.
No injuries were reported in these collisions.
Officials say a driver was arrested for DUI.
The incident remains under investigation.
