Wendell Samuel Chisolm Dies After High-Speed Pursuit and Shootout with Deputies in Dalzell

Dalzell, South Carolina — October 1, 2025: Authorities identified Wendell Samuel Chisolm, age 49, as the suspect who died following a multi-county pursuit and exchange of gunfire with deputies near Ashwood School Road.

According to initial statements, deputies first responded to a domestic disturbance and located a person who had been stabbed. Witnesses told officers the suspect had fled in a vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle; officials say Chisolm refused to stop and a pursuit began. During the chase, the suspect allegedly fired shots at deputies, who returned fire. The pursuit ended in a crash, and Chisolm died from a gunshot wound at the scene.

The incident remains under a pending investigation. Agencies involved include the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and neighboring jurisdictions along the pursuit route.
