Gary, Indiana — September 24, 2025:
Authorities have identified Walter A. Wright, age 24, as the man fatally shot by officers with the Gary Police Department during a response to a reported domestic battery incident.
According to official reports, officers were dispatched to a residence located at 2544 Connecticut Street after receiving a call about a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers allege that Wright exited the home armed with a gun.
Police say that during the encounter, Wright brandished the firearm, leading officers to open fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Gary Police Department has stated that the incident remains under pending investigation. Authorities have not yet released the names of the officers involved or whether body camera footage is available.
The case has been reported by several local outlets, including ABC7 Chicago, The Chicago Tribune, and WGN-TV, as the investigation continues.
