Victor Conrad Altamirano Shot and Killed by Phoenix Police After Suicidal Threats

Phoenix, Arizona — October 2, 2025: Authorities identified Victor Conrad Altamirano, age 58, as the man shot and killed by officers with the Phoenix Police Department outside a residence near 5600 South 6th Street.

According to law enforcement, officers responded to reports of a man armed with a knife who was making suicidal statements. When police arrived, they allege that Altamirano exited the home and moved toward officers while raising a knife above his head and verbally challenging them.

Police say officers initially deployed less-lethal weapons, including pepper spray and bean bag rounds, in an attempt to subdue him. When Altamirano allegedly continued advancing, other officers fired their weapons, striking and killing him. No officers were injured during the incident.

The case remains under a pending investigation by the Phoenix Police Department and the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. Officials confirmed that body-worn camera footage was recorded and is expected to be released in accordance with department policy.

Local media coverage by Arizona’s Family, FOX 10 Phoenix, and Phoenix New Times detailed the sequence of events and the use of both less-lethal and lethal force during the encounter.
