RoundUp Verdict and Assistance

Roundup attorney assistance

(August 2018) Jurors in San Francisco ruled that the most popular weed killer in the world, RoundUp, caused terminal cancer in a former school groundskeeper, Dewayne Johnson.

In this ruling, they awarded the victim $289 million in damages, mostly as punishment to the manufacturer, Monsanto, an agricultural company. Johnson’s victory could be setting a massive precedent for other cases. The case seemed to confirm the connection between the weed killer and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Dewayne Johnson

The case of Dewayne Johnson was the first of many, expedited due to his current health predicament. According to CNN, over 800 patients were suing the Monsanto company, with the claim that Roundup caused their cancer.

Following the verdict, Monsanto remains firm in their belief in the studies that suggest Roundup doesn’t cause cancer. While the cause of Mr. Johnson’s and other’s cancers remains difficult to prove in a court of law, this verdict becomes a stepping stone for those who used Roundup in their day to day jobs or have been diagnosed with Non- Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer due to Roundup.

Monsanto’s belief in their product seems to stem from the belief that glyphosate doesn’t immediately test as carcinogenic to humans. The lawsuits seem to focus on Roundup’s chemical makeup as a whole, rather than the glyphosate alone.

What Risks Does the Weed Killer Pose?

Glyphosate, the main ingredient in the weed killer, has been recognized as a carcinogen. Prolonged exposure to glyphosate can significantly increase the user’s risk of cancer. Glyphosate can be related to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
