(August 2018) Jurors in San Francisco ruled that the most popular weed killer in the world, RoundUp, caused terminal cancer in a former school groundskeeper, Dewayne Johnson.
In this ruling, they awarded the victim $289 million in damages, mostly as punishment to the manufacturer, Monsanto, an agricultural company. Johnson’s victory could be setting a massive precedent for other cases. The case seemed to confirm the connection between the weed killer and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The case of Dewayne Johnson was the first of many, expedited due to his current health predicament. According to CNN, over 800 patients were suing the Monsanto company, with the claim that Roundup caused their cancer.
Following the verdict, Monsanto remains firm in their belief in the studies that suggest Roundup doesn’t cause cancer.
