Las Vegas, NV – A person is dead after being struck by a suspected impaired driver in the northern part of Las Vegas Valley Friday afternoon, according to a police report.

The deadly accident happened at about 2:20 p.m. on February 21 at the intersection of West Elkhorn Road and North Jones Boulevard.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the scene following reports of an auto-pedestrian crash.

Police said a 62-year-old man was riding his E-Bicycle northbound on Jones Boulevard, near the intersection with Elkhorn Road, in a designated and marked bicycle lane.

At the same time, an unregistered black 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, operated by a 49-year-old man, was traveling northbound on Jones Boulevard, north of the intersection with Elkhorn. Police said the Chevrolet driver drifted to the right and entered the bicycle lane south of the bicyclist.

The vehicle overrode the bicyclist, knocking him down. The cyclist was transported to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The name of the victim has not been released.

According to the police, the driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene. Further investigation revealed that the driver displayed signs of impairment. The man was booked into the Clark County Detention Center for the crash-related charges.

The incident remains under investigation.
