Tampa, FL. – Four people were killed and eleven others were injured after being struck by a car following a police pursuit on Saturday morning in Tampa’s Ybor City neighborhood.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 12:40 a.m. on 7th Avenue near 15th Street.

Two cars were racing westbound on Hillsborough Avenue when one car, a silver 2019 Toyota Camry, drove southbound on I-275, later exiting in the downtown area.

Police initiated a pursuit before backing off the car after a PIT maneuver was unsuccessful.

The suspect continued at a high rate of speed down 7th Avenue before hitting over a dozen people outside a bar.

Three victims died at the scene, and a fourth died at a hospital.

One person was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Eight victims were treated at hospitals, and two other victims with minor injuries declined treatment at the scene.

The suspect, a 22-year-old man from Dade City, was arrested and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on multiple charges, including four counts each of vehicular homicide and aggravated fleeing to elude, serious bodily injury and/or death. Additional felony charges are expected.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
