Authorities said one person was killed and another was injured following a head on accident Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 255 near East St. Louis.
St. Clair County, IL.- One person was killed and another was injured following a head on accident Tuesday afternoon in St. Clair County.
The accident occurred shortly after 2:45 p.m. on July 21 on northbound Interstate 255 near the interchange with Interstate 64.
According to a preliminary investigation, a vehicle traveling southbound left the roadway for unknown reasons, crossed the median into the northbound lanes, and collided head on with an oncoming vehicle.
The driver of the southbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital. Authorities have not released an update on that person’s condition.
All northbound lanes of Interstate 255 were closed while emergency crews investigated the accident and cleared the roadway. Traffic was diverted onto Interstate 64 during the closure.
The accident remains under investigation.
