Phoenix, AZ. – Two people were killed and another suffered serious injuries in a high-speed multi-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Phoenix, according to local authorities.
The collision occurred around 1:45 a.m. near Central Avenue and Baseline Road, close to a Valley Metro light rail platform.
A patrol officer in the neighborhood observed a vehicle speeding through the area moments before the crash.
The driver reportedly ran a red light and struck another vehicle at the intersection.
Both vehicles then crashed into the nearby light rail platform, and one car erupted in flames.
Fire crews quickly responded and extinguished the blaze.
The speeding driver was rescued from his burning vehicle and transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
