Police said a marked squad vehicle and another vehicle crashed for unknown reasons.

Springfield, IL. – A Springfield police officer was injured after a traffic collision at an intersection in Springfield, according to the Springfield Police Department.
The accident occurred at 2:11 a.m. on December 31, 2025, at the 5th Street and South Grand Avenue intersection.
Police said a marked squad vehicle and another vehicle crashed for unknown reasons.
The officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The second driver, a male Springfield resident, was cited for driving under the influence and for moving violations.
He was taken to the Sangamon County Jail. He was charged with aggravated driving under the influence by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office on January 2, 2026.
