Troopers said Green of Okeechobee was driving a GMC Sierra pickup and was heading north on State Road 710 while a semi was heading south on State Road 710.

Okeechobee County, FL. – 46-year-old Deputy Shawn Green was killed after a traffic collision early Wednesday morning in Okeechobee County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at 3:02 a.m. on July 30, on State Road 710, northwest of Southeast 59th Boulevard.
Troopers said Green of Okeechobee was driving a GMC Sierra pickup and was heading north on State Road 710 while a semi was heading south on State Road 710.
Green’s pickup truck drove across the center line and entered into the path of the semi for reasons still under investigation. The two vehicles crashed head-on and the pickup burst into flames.
Green was partially thrown out of the vehicle and was declared dead at the crash site.
The semi driver, a 65-year-old man from South Bay, Florida, was injured and taken to Raulerson Hospital.
Green worked with Martin County Sheriff’s Office for 25 years in the courthouse security, road patrol and the corrections departments.
An investigation is underway.
