Police said a 35-year-old Mattoon man was driving on County Road 300 East when his vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a semi-truck.
Coles County, IL. – A Mattoon man was killed and his two passengers were hospitalized after a semi-truck accident on Wednesday evening in Coles County.
According to the Coles County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred a while before 5:30 p.m. on October 1, at County Road 1200 North and County Road 300 East.
Police said a 35-year-old Mattoon man was driving on County Road 300 East when his vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a semi-truck.
The man was declared dead at the scene.
His two passengers, a 37-year-old Mattoon woman and a 5-year-old child were transported to the hospital for treatment. Their current conditions were not immediately known.
The truck driver was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid collision.
An investigation is underway.
