OSP said a beige Kia Optima, driven by 38-year-old Manual Samuel Starr from Coos Bay, was heading northbound on 101 when, for some reason, it crossed the centerline and sideswiped a southbound black Toyota Corolla, driven by 61-year-old Kent McQuillen from Florence. Rodriguez Garcia was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Garcia’s from seat passenger, Nicole Virginia Rodriguez, 44, of Coos Bay, was flown to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Three other passengers in Garcia’s Nissan – Jose Rodriguez Chase Jr. (20) of Coos Bay, a three-year-old male passenger, and a 14-year-old female passenger – suffered minor injuries.

Priest also had reported minor injuries. His two passengers – Nanette Myra Priest (55) of Lake Stevens (WA) and a 10-year-old – were not injured.

The driver of the Toyota, McQuillen, was not injured.

The highway was shut down for four hours as crews worked at the scene.
