According to FHP, a pickup truck, operated by a 66-year-old Cape Coral man was traveling in the left turn lane of northbound U.S. 27 approaching the intersection with Flaghole Road.
Hendry County, TX – A motorcyclist and a child are dead following a two-vehicle traffic collision on U.S. 27 west of Clewiston in Hendry County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
According to FHP, a pickup truck, operated by a 66-year-old Cape Coral man was traveling in the left turn lane of northbound U.S. 27 approaching the intersection with Flaghole Road.
At the same time, a 26-year-old man from Davie was riding a motorcycle in the inside southbound lane of U.S. 27, also approaching the same intersection.
FHP said the pickup truck failed to yield the right-of-way to the motorcycle and turned left, coming directly into the path of the motorcycle.
The front of the motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the pickup, which overturned and slid southwest.
The rider was ejected from the bike and was partially pinned underneath the pickup which came to rest on the southwest corner of the intersection, facing southwest, while overturned on its roof.
The motorcycle came to rest facing east in the outside southbound lane of U.S. 27
The 26-year-old rider was pronounced dead at the scene by Hendry County E.M.S.
A passenger in the pickup, a 4-year-old boy from Clewiston, was also pronounced dead at the scene. The boy was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Another passenger in the pickup sustained serious injuries and was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center.
The pickup driver sustained minor injuries.
