Lukachukai, AZ. – One person was killed, and two others were critically injured in a car crash in Lukachukai on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Navajo Police Department, the rollover accident happened around 12:06 p.m. on State Route 12 near milepost 83.5.
A GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling on the freeway when the driver lost control, causing the car to leave the roadway and overturn, coming to rest on its roof.
One occupant, described as a Navajo Nation adult, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other occupants were transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Preliminary findings indicate speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. Investigators reported locating an alcoholic beverage container outside the vehicle, and none of the occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
The car accident remains under investigation.
