Jefferson County, OR. – A pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle in Jefferson County on Saturday morning, according to Oregon State Police.
The fatal accident occurred on Highway 97 near milepost 101 at around 11:43 a.m. on January 10, 2026.
Investigators determined that a Ford Explorer had been parked on the shoulder of the roadway and was attempting to merge back into the northbound lanes when it struck a pedestrian who was on or near the highway.
The pedestrian, identified as a 38-year-old Madras man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, a Sandy man, was not injured in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation by Oregon State Police, who were assisted at the scene by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
