Coos County, Oregon – Two people are dead and nine others are injured following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 42 in Coos County, according to the Oregon State Police.

Oregon police said a Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Johnathan James Dowdy, 32, of Coos Bay, was traveling westbound on Highway 42 when, for some reason, it crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with an eastbound Chevrolet Express bus, operated by Jami Lea Strinz, 46, of Roseburg.
Dowdy sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital
Authorities said the bus was occupied by 10 members of the Umpqua Community College softball team.
Jami Strinz was taken to the hospital with critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
A passenger of the bus, 19-year-old Kiley Nevaeh Jones of Nampa, Idaho, died at the scene at the scene.
The other 8 passengers of the Chevrolet Express bus, were hospitalized with moderate to serious injuries.
The highway was closed for five hours during the on-scene investigation.
State Police suspect that impaired driving is the primary cause of the crash.
