Jackson County, OR — One person was killed and another was injured after a car crashed into a semi-truck on Interstate 5 in Jackson County Tuesday afternoon.
The person killed has been identified as Harry Smead, 74, of Lemon Grove, CA. The injured party was identified as Terielizabeth Smead, 68, of Lemon Grove, CA.
OSP said the deadly crash happened at about 2:50 p.m. on Interstate 5 near milepost 4 near Ashland.
A preliminary investigation showed that a black Honda Civic, operated by T. Smead was going northbound on I-5 when, for unknown reasons, it left the roadway and hit a parked Freightliner semi-truck and trailer, driven by 30-year-old Shekib Hakimi of Carmichael, CA.
Harry Smead, who was a passenger in the Honda, was pronounced dead at the scene.
T. Smead was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Hakimi was not injured. The highway was closed for about five hours during the on-scene investigation
