Firefighter Shocked while Responding to Downed Power Lines in Indianapolis

Officials said the firefighter, a 4-year-old Indianapolis Fire Department veteran, was using a chainsaw on the roof of a single-story house when he was shocked. He then fell 12 feet and hit the ground in the home’s backyard.

Firefighter Shocked while Responding to Downed Power Lines in Indianapolis

Indianapolis, IN. – A 29-year-old firefighter was shocked while responding to downed power lines at a home in Indianapolis, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.

The accident happened a while after 5:17 p.m.June 18, in the 6300 block of East Berwyn Street.

Officials said the firefighter, a 4-year-old Indianapolis Fire Department veteran, was using a chainsaw on the roof of a single-storey house when he was shocked. He then fell 12 feet and hit the ground in the home’s backyard.

The shocked firefighter was taken to Eskenazi Hospital where he is listed in a stable condition.

The IFD officials were at the home after a call on a house fire and they found a burning tree limb leaning against a garage. The downed power lines were spread across the garage’s roof.

AES Indiana officials also responded to the scene.

An investigation is ongoing.
