Marion County, OR. – One person was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on Sunday afternoon in Marion County, according to the Oregon State Police.
The fatal accident happened around 2:39 p.m. on Interstate 5 at Highway 214 near milepost 272.
Police said a Chevrolet Silverado was attempting to merge onto the southbound lanes of the I-5 from Highway 214.
The vehicle maneuvered hard left across the southbound lanes and entered into the path of a southbound commercial motor vehicle with a trailer, resulting in a collision.
The impact caused the commercial motor vehicle to jack-knife across the freeway, where it struck and dragged a Jeep Grand Cherokee into the median.
A southbound Toyota Matrix was struck by the debris from the accident.
The Chevrolet driver was taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The Toyota driver sustained minor injuries.
The drivers of the CMV and the Jeep were uninjured in the accident.
The collision closed the highway for about four hours.
Police are investigating the accident.
