Indianapolis, IN. – One person died after a police pursuit ended in a car crash in Indianapolis on Wednesday evening.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the accident happened on Interstate 65 near the 92-mile marker shortly after 9 p.m.

A homicide detective reportedly saw a wanted suspect drive by in a truck near the intersection of E 21st Street and N Emerson Avenue. The officer requested assistance from other officers.

After a lengthy chase on northbound I-65, the truck went off the road, struck a concrete culvert, and went airborne before landing in a ditch, where it caught fire.

The suspect, a 30-year-old Chicago resident, was killed in the crash.

The man was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The pursuit will be investigated by the IMPD Internal Affairs Unit for adherence to department policies.
