Driver Killed in Crash on Oakton Street in Niles

Police said the man was heading west on Oakton Street in a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe when he hit a speed limit sign and a tree in the parkway on the north side of the roadway.

Niles, IL. – A 69-year-old man was killed after early Tuesday morning in Niles, north Chicago suburb, according to the Niles Police Department.

The accident occurred at 12:18 a.m. on February 24 in the 7700 block of Oakton Street.

Police said the man was heading west on Oakton Street in a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe when he hit a speed limit sign and a tree in the parkway on the north side of the roadway.

Responding officers found the driver unconscious and not breathing. Officers performed CPR before the Niles Fire Department medics rushed him to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. 

The man was critically injured and he died at the hospital.

A 51-year-old woman riding in the car was rushed to Advocate Lutheran General for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police did not suspect impairment to have played a role in the accident.

Oakton Street was closed between Milwaukee and Prospect avenues following the crash.

The Niles Police and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF) Major Crash Assistance Team are investigating the crash.
