Driver Killed, 2 Injured After Crash on Florida Turnpike Near Mineola Construction Zone

Troopers said a man was driving a 2015 Genesis GV80 southbound in the inside lane when, for unknown reasons, he veered off the roadway and into an active construction zone.

Driver Dies After Multi-Car Accident on Florida Turnpike on Near North Hancock Road in Minneola

Minneola, FL. – A 59-year-old St. Cloud man was killed after a multi-vehicle accident on Wednesday in Minneola, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident happened on September 24 on the Florida Turnpike, south of North Hancock Road (mile marker 277).

Troopers said a man was driving a 2015 Genesis GV80 southbound in the inside lane when, for unknown reasons, he veered off the roadway and into an active construction zone. 

The Genesis struck a construction tractor in the center median, causing the vehicle to rotate back into traffic and collide with a 2015 Chevrolet Trax’s left side. The Trax was traveling south in the inside lane behind the Genesis.

A 2024 Dodge Charger traveling in the outside lane then struck debris from the crash.

The Genesis driver was ejected from the vehicle. He was rushed to South Lake Hospital where he was declared dead. The tractor operator, a 55-year-old man from Summerfield suffered minor injuries following the accident.

The Trax driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to South Lake Hospital. 

The Charger driver was not hurt in the collision.

Further details regarding this crash were not released.

An investigation is underway.
