Glendale, AZ – A Peoria man, identified as Dayden Mathew Samarripa, was killed in a two-vehicle collision during heavy rain in the West Valley early Monday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The deadly crash happened just after 3 a.m. on June 2 in the westbound lanes of Loop 101 at milepost 20, near 51st Avenue in Glendale.
DPS said a passenger vehicle hydroplaned and crashed into the left concrete median. A second vehicle, operated by Dayden Samarripa, also hydroplaned, went sideways and crashed into the first vehicle.
Samarripa was transported to the hospital where he died a short time later.
No one else was injured in the incident.
The westbound lanes of the 101 were shut down for hours during the investigation.
Authorities said several cars stalled due to flooding on Loop 101 near 75th Avenue.
