Coos County, OR. – One driver was killed and another person was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Thursday morning in Coos County.
According to the Oregon State Police, the accident occurred around 10:58 a.m. on Highway 42 near milepost 24
Police said a westbound Chevrolet Malibu driven by a Roseburg man failed to navigate a curve, entered the eastbound lane, and collided nearly head-on with a Freightliner commercial truck pulling double trailers.
A Peterbilt commercial vehicle struck a concrete barrier while attempting to avoid the wreck.
The Malibu’s driver was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
His passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
The drivers of the two commercial vehicles were not injured, and no arrests were reported.
The highway was impacted for about four hours as crews responded, and multiple agencies assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
