Tucson, AZ – A 7-year-old girl who was hit by a vehicle while crossing a Tucson street on Tuesday afternoon has died, according to Tucson Police.

The fatal accident took place at approximately 4 p.m. on September 9 on the 2800 block of South Mission Road, near West 36th Street.

Investigators said the child was among a group of juveniles who got off a bus and crossed Mission Road outside any marked or unmarked crosswalks.

The victim was the last to cross and was struck by a northbound Chevrolet Impala operated by a 56-year-old.

Authorities said the child was taken to the hospital. The police were notified on Thursday that the child had succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.

Reportedly, impairment on the part of the driver is being investigated.

The accident remains under investigation.
