Phoenix, AZ – Three people, including a 4-year-old child, were hospitalized after a fiery two-vehicle accident at a north Phoenix intersection on Friday morning.

The crash occurred just before 8 a.m. Friday, April 26 near the intersection of 48th Avenue and Happy Valley Road.

Phoenix Police said an SUV was heading eastbound on Happy Valley Road when, for some reason, it crossed into oncoming traffic lanes and struck a westbound vehicle.

Authorities said one car caught fire trapping a man inside.

The trapped driver was freed and transported to hospital with minor injuries. A 4-year-old girl in the SUV was transported to the hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries.

The SUV driver was also hospitalized with minor injuries.

Police said intoxication was not a factor in the incident

The crash remains under investigation.
