Urbana, IL. – A Champaign County Sheriff’s Deputy sustained injuries after a traffic collision early Thursday morning in Urbana, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Department.
The accident happened at about 4:15 a.m. August 7, at Florida Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.
Police said two vehicles crashed for unknown reasons.
The deputy sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital in a stable condition. The name of the deputy was not immediately released.
The other driver, a tow truck operator from Reynolds Towing Services, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital. They were treated and discharged.
It was not immediately known if the deputy was responding to a call or had lights and sirens on.
All traffic lanes were blocked for almost eight hours and were later reopened a while after noon on Thursday.
An investigation is underway.
