Bystander Dies After Car Accident on Michigan Avenue and Walton Street

Chicago, IL. – A bystander was killed after a smash and grab at a Louis Vuitton store that led to a collision on Thursday afternoon in Gold Coast in Chicago, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The accident happened at around 5:00 a.m. on September 11 in the 100 block of East Walton Street.

Police said a group of people smashed into the Louis Vuitton store and several people ran in and out of the store and carried merchandise as vehicles honked and drove by.

At least nine suspects fled the site in several cars leaving the pickup truck behind. A Kia Stinger, one of the suspect’s vehicles, hit a Honda CRV heading eastbound at the Ohio junction.

The Honda driver, a man in his 40s and not a suspect, was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead.

Five suspects in the Kia were arrested. They sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Police closed Michigan Avenue between Ontario and Illinois for several hours to give way to a clearing operation and an on-scene investigation.

An investigation is underway.
