At Least 3 Injured in Car Accident on South Wabash Avenue in Downtown Chicago

Downtown Chicago, IL. – At least three people were injured after a traffic collision early Saturday morning in Downtown Chicago, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The accident happened a while before 5:00 a.m. on April 25 in the 500 Block of South Wabash.

Police said a marked Chicago police car was struck by a black SUV in the intersection in unclear circumstances.

The SUV driver, a 26-year-old man, tried to flee the scene but was taken into custody by police a while after.

The officers suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to an area hospital in a good condition.

Two people in the SUV, the driver and a passenger, were transported to Northwestern Hospital in good condition.

As per the police report, the SUV driver did not follow the traffic signal and charges were pending.

The incident remains under investigation.
