Deschutes County, OR – One person was killed and another was injured following a two-vehicle traffic collision on Highway 97 in Deschutes County Thursday night.
The deadly collision happened at about 8:52 p.m. on May 8, 2025, on Highway 97, near milepost 156, according to the Oregon State Police.
The preliminary investigation indicated that Anthony Buddrick Torres, 25, of La Pine, was driving a Dodge Caravan southbound on 97 when he crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a northbound Kenworth commercial motor vehicle and trailer, operated by Florentino Cruz Aguilar, 52, of Williams (CA).
Both vehicles caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames, and required fire personnel efforts to extinguish the fires.
Torres was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Cruz Aguilar sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area medical center.
Reportedly, Torres had been reported as suicidal prior to the collision and the incident is suspected to have been intentional.
The incident remains under investigation.
