9-Year-Old Boy Hit and Killed by Car on West Walton Street Outside McNair Elementary School in Austin

Chicago, IL. – A 9-year-old boy was killed after a pedestrian accident on Thursday morning in the Austin neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The crash happened at around 7:40 a.m. on September 18 in the 4800 block of West Walton Street, outside McNair Elementary School.

Police said the boy was crossing the street heading to school from behind two parked vehicles when he was hit by a silver Chevrolet sedan before being dragged about half a block.

He was rushed to Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead. 

The Chevrolet driver initially continued driving but later returned. He was arrested and charges were pending as of Thursday night.

An investigation is ongoing.
