7 Injured in Multi-Car Crash on South Cicero Avenue

Austin, IL.- According to the Chicago Police Department, seven people including two Chicago police officers were injured in a multi-vehicle accident late  Sunday night in the South Austin neighborhood, Chicago.

The collision occurred at about 11:16 p.m. on May 25, in the 400 block of South Cicero Avenue.

Police said a marked CPD squad vehicle was heading southbound on Cicero Avenue with its emergency lights and sirens on when it struck a gray Hyundai sedan that was turning southbound onto Cicero Avenue.

The impact of the collision caused the squad vehicle to slam into a black Hyundai heading northbound on Cicero. The Hyundai then crashed into a red GMC SUV heading southbound on Cicero Avenue.

Two officers in the squad sustained non-life threatening injuries and were hospitalized.

Five persons, occupants of the black Hyundai SUV were transported to Stroger Hospital in a stable condition.

The Black Hyundai SUV received a total of five citations following the crash.

An investigation is ongoing.
