32-Year-Old Polk County Deputy Killed in Car Crash on I-4 in Haines City

Haines City, FL. – A 32-year-old Polk County detention deputy was killed in a traffic collision on Tuesday night in Haines City.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), the accident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on June 9 on Interstate 4.

Deputies said the deputy was a passenger in a Nissan that was hit by a Ford F-350 as it attempted to move across lanes to exit. The deputy sustained a fatal head injury while the Nissan’s driver suffered minor injuries following the collision.

The Ford’s driver was not injured in the crash.

The deputy worked for the Florida Department of Corrections before joining the South County Jail in Frostproof in 2021 where he was working until he met his death.

The incident remains under investigation.
