Melbourne, FL. – Three people were killed and six hurt after a wrong-way collision on Sunday morning in Melbourne, Brevard County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at about 3:50 a.m. on September 14, on I-95 near Wickham Road.

Troopers said a 2020 Toyota Corolla was heading southbound in the northbound lanes when it collided head-on into a 2014 Chevrolet Impala operated by a 34-year-old man from Holly Hill.

The crash led to a chain-reaction collision involving six other cars.

The 34-year-old woman from Cocoa driving the Toyota and the Holly hill man, and a 46-year-old woman passenger in the Impala were declared dead at the crash site.

They were not wearing seatbelts at the time.

Six persons were hurt in the collision.

Authorities closed all northbound lanes of I-95 between Exit 188 and Exit 191. The roadway reopened at about 1:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Multiple mangled vehicles and debris were visible at the scene.

An investigation is underway.
