3 Killed, 5 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Accident on I-57 and 120th Street in Calumet City

Police said a driver was driving erratically at least 100 miles per hour and they hit several vehicles. One of the vehicles, not involved in the initial collision, struck three persons that were outside their cars after the initial accident.

Calumet City, IL. – Three people were killed and five others hurt after a multi-vehicle accident on Wednesday in Calumet City, according to the Illinois State Police.

The accident happened a while after midnight on December 3, on I-57,  south of 120th Street.

Police said a driver was driving erratically at least 100 miles per hour and they hit several vehicles. One of the vehicles, not involved in the initial collision, struck three persons that were outside their cars after the initial accident.

Three persons were killed in the accident.

All northbound lanes were shut down after the collision and traffic was diverted to the 99th Street exit ramp. The lanes were reopened at 7:49 a.m. 

An investigation is ongoing.
