2 Sustain Fatal Injuries After Wrong-Way Crash on I-80

Sparks, NV. – Two persons were killed after a head-on collision on Monday morning in Sparks near Mustang, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The deadly collision happened a while before 5:30 a.m. on westbound I-80.

Per the police report, a black Honda sedan was heading eastbound on I-80 when, for unknown reasons, it crossed into the westbound travel lanes and drove eastbound in the westbound lanes.

At the same time a silver Nissan hatchback and a silver Honda sedan were heading westbound on I-80 in the number two travel lane. The silver Honda was behind the silver Nissan.

The wrong way black Honda sedan crashed head-on into the silver Nissan hatchback. 

The silver Honda behind the Nissan drove off the right shoulder into the desert to avoid the collision.

The male black Honda driver and sole occupant was declared dead at the site. 

The female silver Nissan Hatchback and only occupant also died in the crash.

The female silver Honda driver was not hurt in the collision.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the accident site.

Police closed westbound I-80. One lane was reopened at about 7:35 a.m. while all lanes were reopened a while before 10.00 a.m.

An investigation is ongoing.
