Apache Junction, AZ – Two people were killed early Saturday morning in a car accident in Apache Junction, according to the authorities.

The deadly accident happened around 1:30 a.m. on September 20 near Old West Highway and Goldfield Road.

Authorities said a vehicle veered off the roadway and crashed into a utility pole.

The driver of the vehicle, a man, died at the scene. His passenger, a child who was in the passenger seat, was taken to the hospital where they later died.

Goldfield Road was closed for the rest of the day and motorists were urged to avoid the area or use Mountain View Road or Tomahawk Road as alternate routes.
