Deputies said a 2017 Jeep Wrangler operated by a 34-year-old Lake Worth Beach man, crashed into a Chevy truck.

Lantana, FL. – One person was killed and two others were severely injured on Tuesday morning at an intersection in Lantana, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident happened at 11:12 a.m. on June 23, at the East Ocean Avenue and Dixie Highway intersection.
Deputies said a 2017 Jeep Wrangler operated by a 34-year-old Lake Worth Beach man, crashed into a Chevy truck.
He then fled the scene at a high rate of speed causing a chain reaction involving eight vehicles including a 2023 Mazda CX, 2024 Ford F-350, a 2006 Honda Civic, a 2016 Toyota 4Runner, a 2018 Toyota C-HR and a 2006 Toyota Prius.
The Mazda CX driver, a 67-year-old Boca Raton man, was declared dead at the crash site.
The Jeep and the Civic driver, a 37-year-old Lantana woman, suffered severe injuries and were airlifted to a trauma center by Palm Beach County Health Care District TraumaHawk helicopters.
Police suspected the Jeep driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision.
The 4Runner driver sustained minor injuries.
No one else was injured in the accident.
Dixie Highway was blocked in both directions with southbound traffic re-routed to Lantana Road and northbound to West Pine Street.
An investigation is underway.
