1 Killed, 7 Injured in 4-Vehicle Crash on Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) on Chicago’s Near West Side

Chicago, IL. – One person was killed and seven others were hurt after a multi-car accident early Sunday morning on Chicago’s Near West Side.

According to the Illinois State Police, the accident happened a while before 3:00 a.m. on May 17, on outbound Eisenhower (I-290) at Ashland Avenue, near Rush University Medical Center.

Police said a vehicle rear-ended another car leading to a chain reaction collision involving four cars.

Eight people were rushed to the hospital for treatment. One of the patients died at the hospital.

Police said a motorcyclist was shot about a mile and a half west on the outbound Eisenhower at California Avenue shutting down all lanes for an investigation. Police said it was not immediately known if the traffic jam leading to the collision was caused by the incident.

The right lane of the outbound Eisenhower and several ramps were shut down at 3:00 a.m. All lanes were reopened at 7:54 am.

No additional information concerning this crash was provided.

The incident remains under investigation.
