Police said a black GMC Sierra was pulling a tandem axle dump trailer and was heading west on the highway near Redmond when it tried to avoid slowing traffic and crossed into the eastbound lane. An eastbound gray Honda Accord then crashed head-on into the trailer.

Deschutes County, OR. – One person was killed and another severely hurt after a traffic collision on Friday afternoon in Deschutes County.
According to the Oregon State Police, the accident happened a while after noon near milepost 103.5.
Police said a black GMC Sierra was pulling a tandem axle dump trailer and was heading west on the highway near Redmond when it tried to avoid slowing traffic and crossed into the eastbound lane. An eastbound gray Honda Accord then crashed head-on into the trailer.
A 59-year-old Honda passenger was pronounced dead at the crash site. The Honda driver sustained severe injuries.
The GMC driver was not hurt and cooperated with officials.
An investigation is underway.
