1 Killed, 2 Children Hurt in Wrong-Way Crash on I-75 in Charlotte County

Troopers said a 53-year-old man of Sarasota was heading south in the northbound lanes in a 2020 Ford F-150 when it crashed into a 2016 Kia Optima. The Ford F-150 also crashed into a 2012 Honda CR-V operated by a 21-year-old woman from Bradenton.

1 Killed in Wrong-Way Multi-Vehicle Accident on I-75 at Mile Marker 150 in Charlotte County

Charlotte County, FL. – One driver was killed after a multi-vehicle accident early Sunday morning in Sarasota, Charlotte County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at around 1:13 a.m. on May 17, on northbound I-75 near mile marker 150.

Troopers said a 53-year-old man of Sarasota was heading south in the northbound lanes in a 2020 Ford F-150 when it crashed into a 2016 Kia Optima. The Ford F-150 also crashed into a 2012 Honda CR-V operated by a 21-year-old woman from Bradenton.

The Bradenton woman was declared dead at the crash site.

The Kia occupants, a 34-year-old woman from Arcadia, and two passengers, boys ages 12 and 15, sustained severe injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

The Sarasota man sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The man was released from the hospital, arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter. He was booked into the Charlotte County Jail with first court appearance scheduled on Monday morning.

An investigation is underway.
