Wildwood, FL. – A 60-year-old man from Georgia was killed after a tractor-trailer accident on Monday night in Wildwood, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident happened at 10:20 p.m. on May 11 on Interstate 75.

Troopers said a Ford F350 towing a motorhome and a tractor-trailer crashed in unclear circumstances. The motorhome was destroyed and debris scattered across every southbound lane. A Honda CRV then hit the debris and was disabled. Traffic was slowed due to the first crash.

At 11:34 p.m. a fourth tractor-trailer failed to slow down and crashed into another semi-truck causing a chain-reaction involving two more tractor-trailers.

The driver of the first truck in the second collision, a 60-year-old man from Georgia, was ejected from his truck after the crash. He was transported to a hospital where he died.

The driver of the second truck sustained severe injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Southbound lanes were closed at the 329 milepost to redirect drivers to SR-44. The highway was closed for several hours and was later reopened on Tuesday at around noon.

It was not immediately known if any of the drivers from the first crash will face charges for the initial collision that caused traffic to stop.
