Lemont, IL. – One person was killed, and another person was injured following a wrong-way collision early Sunday morning in Lemont, according to the Illinois State Police.

The accident occurred a while before 1:30 a.m. on August 24 on Interstate 355 at the Des Plaines River.

Police said a car was traveling southbound on I-355 when another car was heading northbound in the southbound lanes and the two ultimately collided.

The wrong-way driver was killed in the collision. The driver in the second car was rushed to a local hospital in a critical condition.

Police closed the lanes for a number of hours to give way to investigation.
