Spanaway, WA. – A construction worker was hospitalized after being struck by a driver who crashed into a work zone on a highway in Spanaway on Tuesday morning.

The collision happened around 1:31 a.m. on State Route 7 at 188th Street, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A vehicle was traveling southbound when it struck two vehicles at a construction zone and caught fire.

One of the cars was pushed forward and struck a construction worker.

The worker was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver was extricated from the burning fire and was taken to hospital with minor injuries. He was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
