Marion County, FL – A man is dead following a two-car crash in Summerfield Sunday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The deadly collision happened just before 9 a.m. on US Highway 301 at 147th Street.
Investigators said a white Hyundai Elantra, operated by a 78-year-old man, was stopped at a redlight at 147th Street. The Elantra driver attempted to turn left from Southeast 147th Street onto US Highway 301 when the vehicle was struck by a white Ford Escape traveling south down US Highway 301.
The impact sent the Ford off the roadway into the shoulder of the road where it struck a tree. The tree fell onto the Ford killing the 53-year-old male driver.
The name of the man killed in the incident has not been released.
The Elantra’s driver was not injured in the incident.
The crash remains under investigation.
