Grant Township, Pennsylvania — October 5, 2025: Authorities identified Jonathan James Pearce Jr., age 34, as the man shot and killed by officers with the Indiana Police Department after an armed confrontation near the 3000 block of Dixonville Road.
According to law enforcement, officers were responding to reports of a physical assault and gunshots fired in the area. Pearce allegedly fled to his residence, where he started a fire inside the home before climbing onto the roof and firing multiple rounds at officers positioned below.
Police returned fire, striking and killing Pearce. The fire was later extinguished by emergency crews. No officers were injured during the incident.
The Pennsylvania State Police and the Indiana Police Department are jointly investigating the fatal shooting, which remains under a pending investigation.
Local media reports from Pennsylvania State Police Press Release, WTAE News, and Indiana Gazette indicate that a dispute with a neighbor may have preceded the confrontation that led to Pearce’s death.
