John Allyn Killed in Baker County Rear-End Crash on Interstate 84 near Milepost 345

Baker County, OR – A Baker City man, identified as John Carl Allyn, 85, was killed in a rear-end crash on Interstate 84 in Baker County Saturday night, according to Oregon State Police.

The deadly two-vehicle crash happened at around 10:52 p.m. on April 5 on Interstate 84 near milepost 345.

Oregon State Police said John Allyn was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe and was stopped in the eastbound slow lane for unknown reasons when it was rear-ended by an eastbound Volvo commercial motor vehicle and trailer operated by Anatolii Gulei, 36, of Vancouver (WA).

Allyn was flown to an area hospital where he later died.

Gulei was not injured in the incident.

The roadway was shut down for close to six hours as crews and investigators worked at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
