Drummonds, Tennessee — October 6, 2025: Authorities identified Fredrick Payne, age 52, as the man shot and killed by deputies with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office following a domestic disturbance and foot pursuit near the 7600 block of Richardson Landing Road.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), deputies responded to reports of a fight between brothers. When they arrived, Payne allegedly fled the scene on foot. Deputies pursued him, and during the encounter, police claim the situation escalated, leading officers to fire their weapons. Payne was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials have not released further details about what occurred during the pursuit or what caused officers to open fire. No deputies were injured in the incident, which remains under a pending investigation by the TBI.
